Some testimonies of well-succeeded cases in the Communitary Center

1. Lucas Dominique (13 years-old)

Lucas Dominique is a 13-year-old adolescent who has been actively participating in the Center’s activities.
After the begining of Viva-Volleyball workshop, in April, 2005, the boy was pointed to participate in Flamengo’s Club.
The Extra newspaper from 17 April, 2005, published an article on Lucas’s participation in the Volleyball activities in Flamengo, and since then he hasn’t missed a single day. The adolescent’s school performance has been improving very much since this period and his interest in the Center’s activities has considerably raised.

2. Daiana Diogo (17 years-old)

Daiana Diogo has been participating in the Center’s activities for some time. Daiana is an adolescent who has been experiencing a lot of family problems, but still she’s very responsibe and persistent. The adolescent was brought to the First Job project and is working at MULTIRIO (MULTIMEIOS Municipal Enterprise), where she’s very praised by her supervisor.
Daiana has three brothers and sisters; two of them live in an asylum and one lives with her. Daiana’s mother is a drug addicted and, although she has been going through special treatment, she couldn’t overcome such difficulty. She lives with a sister-in-law now, since it was not possible that she kept living with Daiana and her brother.
Being led to the First Job program stimulated Daiana a lot.
The adolescent has been taking several courses (Computing and now a Nursery one). Daiana is monthly supervised at MULTIRIO by the Center’s Social Service and we notice her effort to achieve her goals.

3. Maico Marins (14 years-old)

Maico is a mother orfan, and after a medical appointment in the Center with Dr. Tegnus (São Martinho’s doctor), we found out that the adolescent had a groin hernia. In the begining of his enrollment in the project, his father was very absent on matters related to the boy. However, when the Center’s Social Service called the father, the latter showed himself very concerned with the adolescent’s care, not only with his health problem but also with the other aspects related to school, personal relations and the family relation too. From this on, we have been noticing great advances during the project’s daily activities, regular Social Service’s interventions and in the activities the boy participates in. His surgery is already scheduled and Maico was also taken to the Center’s Joinery Project, where he will receive a financial aid.

4. Michel Gabriel (15 years-old)

According to Michel’s adoptive mother, his real mother didn’t care about her children and left them abandoned in the streets. The first lady, then, started to take care of the kid. When Michel came to the project, his adopted mother complained a lot, because he had no limits and liked to stay on his community’s streets (Morro do Juramento), something that made her very concerned. However, with him coming to the Center and the Social Service’s interventions, Michel changed his behavior, and was taken to the PRCC (Projeto Rio Criança Cidadã – Rio Citizen Child Project). He took some courses there, but he hasn’t adapted and asked to leave. Then, the Center took him to the First Job project. Today, we notice that the adolescents is making an effort in order to advance and his school performance has been improving. Besides, he has been showing a lot of interest in helping his family.

5. Luana de Souza (14 years-old)

Luana is on the 6th grade (Middle School). Since she entered the Project, the adolescent has been showing a lot of interest in the activities and has been growing a lot. With São Martinho’s help, Luana was led to the Cultura Inglesa Language Course, where she studied English. Her school results have been improving a lot and her family has been participating in all activities when it is called by the Center. Next year the adolescent expects to enter the Work World Project from São Martinho, where she’ll be able to participate in a professional-initiation program.
